Just 17 kilometers from the town of Adola in southern Ethiopia lies the village of Muje, a thriving coffee-growing community in East Guji. Here, smallholder farmers cultivate coffee known locally as "garden coffee," a testament to Ethiopia's deep-rooted coffee culture. These farmers contribute to a heritage renowned for producing some of the world's most exceptional coffees. Their harvests are delivered to the Muje Mesina washing station, located on the Awata River—a vital resource for the production of high-quality washed coffees.
Ethiopian coffee is naturally organic, although these are not always certified. Traditional farming methods and native landraces (heirloom) thrive with minimal intervention, creating harmony between the coffee trees and their environment. This coffee is an excellent example of this, characterized by vibrant acidity, dense fruit aromas, and complex flavor nuances. Notably, the beans are smaller, a hallmark of coffee grown at high altitudes, where a longer ripening period results in exceptional flavors. Despite their small size, these beans are full of character.
This coffee is dry-processed, and the flavor is unique. Fruity, as befits a premium Ethiopian coffee, but the sweetness is paramount. The taste of fruit candy, strawberry, and cherry gives this coffee its unique aroma, making it a opportunity for filter coffee lovers to enjoy such unique coffee.
