More information
This EligoCoffee Rwanda Muhondo comes from the Gakenke district, one of Rwanda’s most promising regions for specialty coffee. The Muhondo Washing Station was acquired in 2013 by Jean Nepomuscene Habyarimana, who began his coffee journey in 2008.
Today, Muhondo Coffee Company works with around 2.300 smallholder farmers, providing seedlings, fertilizers, logistics, training and access to credit. The community also benefits from clean water stations and job creation through the washing station. The region’s ideal climate and nutrient-rich soils allow coffee plants to grow slowly, resulting in greater aromatic complexity in the cup.
Processing is highly meticulous: cherries are slowly dried on raised beds with multiple layers and carefully protected at night from weather and temperature changes. After that they are out in closed tanks and a anerob fermentation begins. After that the cherries are again dried on raised beds. This precision enhances clarity and depth.
In the cup, it delivers a dynamic profile of cherry, dried plum, red orange and molasses, with a distinctive fermented note reminiscent of rum.
A complex and expressive filter coffee, crafted the EligoCoffee way.
